I'd just like to say that Jonathan Williamson of BlenderCookie, is one of the best instructors I've ever found to explain this stuff.
Having previewed the second part of the apple tutorials, it looks like this is exactly what I need to know, as far as generating and skinning static models.
I will still need to learn how to export to MD3 or IQM. I was digging around and found a link to a few MD3 exporters on KatsBits.com
When I get this stuff all sorted out, I'll have to put together a comprehensive "How-to" for modeling, skinning and exporting to DarkPlaces.

Found a tutorial on how to get the alpha channels to display correctly in Blender 2.5.
